It is heartening to note that the Faculty of Social Sciences under the leadership of Prof. Shabahat Husain, Dean of the faculty, is taking pioneering step to establish the ‘First Fully Digital Library’ in Aligarh Muslim University. The importance of Social Sciences in the present era can hardly be over-emphasized as it concerns itself with the society and human behaviours that are increasingly becoming more valuable in the new Socio-Economic and Political world order.
The Faculty of Social Sciences being one of the largest faculties in the university includes 13 departments of studies comprising of about 2600 students, 500 research scholars and about 162 faculty members. The Library is aimed at providing access to vast electronic resources in form of E-books, E-journals including in-house publications, web courses, video lectures of eminent scholars and a host of subject related softwares, like SPSS etc. In the present electronic age, foundation of such a ‘PAPERLESS LIBRARY’ in any institution of higher learning is indeed welcome.
I congratulate the Dean, Chairmen and all the students of the faculty for the new beginning. I hope and pray that the social scientists in A.M.U and elsewhere in the world will make a good use of Social Sciences Digital Library in building their careers.
